Professor Douglas Davis, Department of Communication Design, has spent years telling his students that remaining relevant as a creative professional takes more than creativity—it also takes an understanding of the language of business. Douglas began as a designer in the digital advertising industry and has evolved into a strategic expert known for his creative business approach. His new book, Creative Strategy and the Business of Design (HOW Books, 2016), teaches left-brain business skills to right-brain creative thinkers, filling a void in design curricula.
Douglas returns to HOW DESIGN LIVE 2016 with "From Insights to Executions"
FROM INSIGHTS TO EXECUTIONS
The pressure, lack of time and chaotic process we create in often defines what's possible. Most of the time, as a result we settle for good enough rather than great. But it doesn't have to be this way. Even in our deadline oriented, give-it-to-me-yesterday grind, it is still possible to find the inspiration that makes what we do fun. All you need is a little visual language.
This session will demonstrate simple creative tactics that will help you turn research into insights and turn insights into a variety of creative business solutions. Though originality can't come from templates, recipes or formulas, it doesn't mean that a little structure can't provide inspiration. Using the words behind the pictures, this session is designed to help you harness the chaos of the creative process to craft words that inspire visual solutions. More>

Douglas Davis to be an International Judge in the Best brand Awards 2015
"Since logos are a tangible aspect of any brand, it is an essential part of our global visual language. Communication through symbols is similar to math in that they are universally recognizable even if you have no idea what the equation says. This is not an easy thing to pull off therefore those who do it well should be recognized."
